Advent Day 23: King, God, And Savior

When they saw the star, they were filled with joy! They entered the house and saw the child with His mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped Him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. -Matthew 2:10-11

In the quiet of the first Christmas, wise men (Magi) journeyed guided by a star, carrying precious gifts—gold, frankincense, and myrrh—for the newborn King.

These gifts weren’t just ordinary gifts. They were symbols that honored all that Jesus was. Gold, a symbol of royalty, recognizes Jesus as a king, not just any king, but the King of Kings. Frankincense marked Jesus as divine, signifying a connection between heaven and earth. The wise men recognized the sacredness of the child lying in the manger. Myrrh, a fragrant spice used for embalming, hinted at the sacrifice Jesus would make. Even in the early moments of His life, the wise men foresaw the purpose for which He came—to offer redemption and salvation to humanity.

May the gifts of the wise men inspire us not only to exchange physical presents but also to offer the treasures of our hearts—our loyalty, reverence, and gratitude to the One born in Bethlehem. In doing so, we join the wise men in honoring the true significance of Christmas, embracing the gift of Jesus with open hearts.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for leading me to You. Just like You led the Magi close to Jesus, please bring me closer to Jesus than I have been before. Jesus, I worship You as my King, my God, and my Savior! Holy Spirit, help me guide other people who are far from you to draw near and worship Jesus.
