Notes 📓✏️:

Be Still and Know – Derek Staaland

Luke 5:1-8 – “One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, the people were crowding around Him and listening to the word of God.

2 He saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets.

3 He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Peter, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then He sat down and taught the people from the boat.

4 When He had finished speaking, He said to Peter, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”

5 Peter answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because You say so, I will let down the nets.”

6 When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break.

7 So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.

8 When Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!”

9 For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken.”

ASTONISHED: To take possession of, to surround and encompass, to seize, to have and to hold in hand

Jesus knows exactly where you are and what miracle you need.

Giving love (obedience) is the act of allowing God to know you. Receiving love is the act of allowing you to know God.

John 14:15 – “If you love Me you will obey Me.”

I John 5:3 – “This is love for God: to obey His commands.”

Obedience is our allowing God to experience us. This is how God knows us.

Obedience is not about ruling but about relationship.

I Corinthians 8:3 NIV – “But whoever loves God is known by God.”

Deuteronomy 8:2- “Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to KNOW what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep His commands.”

Yada: knowledge gained through experience; to recognize and notice

yada’ would indicate that … God wanted to experience what was in their hearts through experiencing their obedience.

Psalm 139:1-6 – “You have searched me and KNOWN me, You KNOW when I sit down and when I get up; You understand my thought from far away. You scrutinize my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before there is a word on my tongue, behold, You KNOW it all. You have encircled me behind and in front, and placed Your hand upon me. Such KNOWLEDGE is too wonderful for me; it is too high, I cannot comprehend it.”

I John 4:16- “I have known and believed the love that God has for me.”

The Passion Translation – I have come into an intimate experience with God’s love and I trust in the love He has for me.

The reason Peter was astonished was because he just experienced who God was to him!

Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God.”

Be still- Literally means to put your hands down by your side.

“be weak, to let go, to release…. It means to surrender.

‘In order to know”

Surrender in order to know…

2 Corinthians 12:9- “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.”

The phrase Sawubona “I see you.” If you are a member of the tribe you would reply, Sikhona Which in English language is equivalent to saying “I am here to be seen”

Giving love (obedience) is the act of allowing God to know you. Receiving love is the act of allowing you to know God.
